CUPE Vows fight on post-secondary cuts

VICTORIA - CUPE has called on the BC government to restore appropriate funding to public post secondary institutions and end budget cuts made on the backs of CUPE workers. The union resolution came on the heels of a new round of cuts by the University of Victoria.

The Union will be bringing forward the attached Resolution to the Canadian Council to the Union meeting Wednesday, April 17, 2013. We will be moving a motion at this meeting that reads: "Cupe Local 116 is affirming our full support of this campaign and endorses this resolution".

As you may have already learned, your Union was recently able to reach agreement with the University to renew our other Collective Agreement. With a settlement complete, we are now able to return our attention to the Aquatic Centre and continue our pursuit of a fair and respectful Collective Agreement.

Tentative Agreement with

October 24th, 2012
We have reached a tentative agreement with UBC, pending ratification, all job action has ended including the overtime ban. -Regarding ratification, we will be sending out a package for you to review with all the changes, early next week. They will be made available in print, email, website, and Facebook site. So if you don't receive one you will find it there. -The ratification meeting that was planned for tomorrow (Thursday, October 25/12) has been postponed. We are trying to secure a room for the week of November 5, 2012 to hold a ratification vote. Once the room is confirmed, we will be sending out a bulletin with the date, time(s) and location(s) where the ratification vote will be held.

After nearing 40 hours of mediated talks, your Bargaining Committee reached a tentative agreement with the University of British Columbia last night. This Agreement is the result of the hard work and tireless efforts on both sides of the table, along with the assistance of Vince Ready.

Day 8: CUPE 116 Job Action
at UBC
October 18th, 2012
Picket-lines remained strong down at South Campus on Wednesday during day 8 of CUPE 116 job action. Campus Mail was struck, preventing the distribution and delivery of mail services on Campus. Gardeners from the Landscape Crew walked off the job in support and joined the pickets.
